I love the fact that Ron Rivera is getting a shot as head coach. Maybe I thought he would have gotten a better coaching gig in Chicago or even Denver and maybe even replacing the ineffective Norv Turner. But I digress. I think out of all the head coaches out there that only a few can handle this Cam Newton mess. Ron and maybe a coach like Gruden. Perhaps Rex Ryan and at one time I thought Shanahan could but watching in Washington -what a mess.
Anyways, back to the 1st round pick going to Caronlina. I still would not be surprised if they went DE. Da’Quan Bowers or Robert Quinn. It would a be a Texans style move ala Mario Williams but we know Ron is a defense all the way. It starts in the trenches.
It was truly surprising when Jacksonville Jaguars chose their first pick of the 2010 NFL Draft at #10, who could have been at best a second-rounder. Tyson Alualu, as a defensive tackle, may be good on the field, will not have an impact on the sale of season tickets.
D’Anthony Smith was the second pick for the franchise and it was another disappointing move by John Henderson. Kirk Morrison, the middle linebacker, was traded off to Oakland in the fourth round. Larry Hart is a good pick, but will have to adjust well to the role, which he will have in the Jaguars’ side. Again, Austen Lane is also a player of the same pedigree, but the defensive end will have to work on his skill for making an impact in the league. Deji Karim has the potential to be a good running back. McGee is an undersized player, but a great kick returner.
Jacksonville Jaguars will be hoping that 2010 NFL Draft picks go as per their plans.
Houston Texans had a mixed bag in 2010 NFL Drafts, as they picked up a tough cornerback in the form of Kareem Jackson and a running back, Ben Kate. However, their next three picks were more than disappointing, as they went for an undersize defensive tackle, Earl Mitchell, unnecessary linebacker, Darryl Sharpton and the misplaced tight end, Garrett Graham.
At the end, they did comeback with 3 picks, which were of extreme value. The skills and athleticism of Shelley Smith, Guard, will give Texans the blocker having an impressive potential. Trindon Holiday, at #197, may be amongst the best picks in the sixth round, has the potential to be a great slot receiver. Dorin Dickerson, the tight end, who had 10 touchdowns in the previous season, is a steal, which can bring glory to the franchise in this coming season.
So, there is no doubt that it was a mixed 2010 NFL Draft for the Texans. They will be hoping that every new draftee can prove the critics wrong.
Even though they were in need of a left tackle, Buffalo Bills ignored the temptation of picking quarterback Jimmy Clausen and went for C J Spiller, the running back from Clemson.
Even though they had another chance in Round Two, the franchise opted for a defensive tackle, Torrell Troup for giving support to their 3-4 plan. Alex Carrington, the defensive end, also seems a part of their plan. Marcus Easley, who they picked in the fourth round, was another questionable pick. They finally grabbed on a tackle in the form of Ed Wang and Kyle Calloway, but they don’t seem good enough for the herculean job in hand.
Arthur Moats, the defensive end and winner of Buck Buchanan Award, is the best pick for the Bills. Dan Batten is another FCS star to watch out for. They did get a quarterback in the form of Levi Brown, but he is surely not the answer to their problems.
Bills have been horrible in the draft and it has continued with 2010 NFL Draft, as they failed to meet their requirements of an LT and a QB.
